Since last week, a massive steel structure has been towering over the Puerto Real Shipyard, surrounded by gantry cranes. This structure is a jacket intended for a substation destined for an offshore wind farm in France.
The jacket reached its final height when the upper section, weighing nearly 900 tons, was carefully lowered onto the lower section in a meticulously orchestrated maneuver, facilitated by the gantry cranes capable of lifting up to 1,100 tons when working in tandem.
The Puerto Real Shipyard boasts ideal conditions for such constructions. In addition to its remarkable lifting capacity, it spans over 1,200,000 m2, with 300,000 m2 under cover and a dock measuring 500m x 100m x 15.5m. The facilities are further enhanced by 13 painting booths and 650m of quay.
