Subestación marina de corriente alterna
Andalucía 2 substation: Scottish Power, East Anglia 1
Project carried out at the Puerto Real shipyard for Scottish Power. Currently installed at the East Anglia 1 wind farm, which has an installed capacity of 714 megawatts (MW), supplying some 600,000 British homes.
Named Andalucia 2, the AC substation is the core of the wind farm. Its function is to collect the electricity produced by the wind turbines and transform the voltage from 66 kV to 220 kV. The electricity is then transmitted via the marine cable to the land, minimising power losses along the way.
The substation was completed in March 2017 and delivered just 16 months later, in July 2018. At the time, it was the largest substation in the world, occupying a surface area of 1,144 m2 (the size of Madrid's Vicente Calderón stadium) and 3,900 tonnes.
