The Cádiz Free Trade Zone and Navantia Seanergies have taken a further step in their shared commitment to innovation and the development of the Blue Economy by signing an agreement that will enable the company to establish an innovation office within the Incubazul building, home to the high-tech incubator promoted by the Cádiz Free Trade Zone Consortium.
The agreement builds on the memorandum of understanding signed by both organisations last December and consolidates a strategic alliance aimed at strengthening the Blue Economy innovation ecosystem in the province of Cádiz. It promotes collaboration between a leading company in the naval and marine renewable energy sectors and the entrepreneurial, technological and business ecosystem that is being developed around its Industry 4.0 model and flagship projects, Incubazul and Blue Core.
An innovation hub for marine energy
Under the agreement, Navantia Seanergies will have a permanent space within the Incubazul building, where it will establish an office serving as the regional innovation hub for the Navantia Seanergies COEX Green Energies in Western Andalusia. The office is conceived as a support infrastructure for the development of joint initiatives related to innovation, knowledge transfer and entrepreneurship within the Blue Economy.
From this office, located in an iconic building constructed from recycled shipping containers, the company will promote initiatives focused on the technological maturation of solutions linked to offshore wind energy, green hydrogen and other sustainable marine energy technologies. These activities will be carried out through an open innovation model that brings together companies, startups, technology centres and R&D stakeholders.
This latest milestone in the longstanding strategic partnership between the two organisations goes beyond establishing a physical presence, as it also sets the framework for joint activities aimed at advancing the Blue Economy.
The agreement includes Navantia Seanergies’ participation in selection panels for business projects seeking admission to Incubazul, as well as involvement in hackathons, technical workshops, outreach activities and other Blue Economy-related events organised by the incubator. In addition, the Cádiz Free Trade Zone will facilitate access to information about projects undergoing acceleration, creating opportunities for technological collaboration between Navantia and the startups incubated within the programme.
Boosting entrepreneurship and open innovation
As its first initiative, Navantia Seanergies will organise an ecosystem engagement event this autumn for the Incubazul entrepreneurial community. During the event, the company will present its business lines, technological capabilities and innovation priorities to identify solutions with industrial application potential alongside startups, businesses and support organisations.
The event will focus on strategic areas such as offshore wind energy, renewable hydrogen, the naval and offshore industries, industrial digitalisation and automation, artificial intelligence, maritime-port logistics, environmental sustainability and the circular economy. By strengthening connections between industry and the entrepreneurial ecosystem, the initiative aims to promote high-impact projects and a more competitive and sustainable Blue Economy.
This alliance will help strengthen links between innovative entrepreneurship and established industry, fostering knowledge transfer, collaborative projects and new public and private funding opportunities for Blue Economy-related initiatives. It will also reinforce Incubazul’s positioning as a national benchmark for Blue Economy innovation and enhance the attractiveness of the ecosystem promoted by the Cádiz Free Trade Zone.
